Your star sign indicates how you’ll cope in the coronavirus lockdown

Is your life in lockdown written in your star sign? Astrologer Vanessa Montgomery thinks so…

With all of this time at home self-isolating, we’re being told we could learn a new language online, complete a 1000-piece jigsaw or make a start at learning the guitar.

But with our emotions and anxiety at fever pitch, does our star sign hold the answer to how we shine rather than get cabin fever?

Aries

Aries loves nothing more than a challenge. ‘Adapt or die’ is the catch cry of this fire-starting sign with a heart of pure octane. After releasing pent up energy and headaches by screaming into her pillow, wrestling and beating it at the same time for five minutes, she’s ready to start something new.

Adventure awaits in the form of nothing ventured nothing gained. Aries believes she can do anything, and so she will have her logo designed, website set up and open for business by morning. By week two, she may have delegated it out so she can move onto the next mission that lights her up. This sign dashes the flames of boredom with a new exciting mission to accomplish. If you see her flailing, set her a goal and dare her to ace you.

Taurus

Taurus loves slow food, slow caresses, and life in the slow and steady wins the race lane. So, this sign is good for a few weeks on the couch. However, you can’t keep a good earth sign down. She needs to be productive, even if that’s perfecting her sourdough bread with a wild gathered starter.

Preferring to build on success rather than change lanes, she’ll move onto brewing kombucha, and if the next-door neighbours are in luck, beer and beyond will find itself in a hamper of homemade staples in front of their door to get them by. Community victory garden plans with shift work run lists may be on the agenda too.

Gemini

Gemini needs a lot of intellectual and kinetic movement, so if she’s in a small crib, she’ll have to stream plenty of vintage Jane Fonda workouts to keep her going. In his book, Why Zebras Don’t Get Ulcers Professor Robert Sapolsky explains, it’s because they shake the stress hormone cortisol out of their muscles then go back to super chill grazing. Make like a zebra to Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off.

As the fact-checker of the zodiac, this cool-headed sign will forward the news updates that aren’t sensationalised clickbait. The kitchen table would make an excellent HQ for a blog, podcast or new career in website design. Keep a journal and record your quarantine experience for posterity or share in a blog – people love to relate and knowing they’re not alone will be a service to humanity.

Cancer

“Oh no, I have to stay at home!” said no Cancerian ever. This is your time, Cancer, make the most of it by cooking all the favourites your mama made for you. Sort out your photos and order some hard copy printed photo books for your memories. That’s weeks one and two covered right there. The mighty crustacean is canny and those small business ideas become big when she puts her care factor behind them.

What better time for a DNA test and family tree discovery tour? Cancer is nostalgic and enjoys tracing family history, so it’s now or never. Extend the olive leaf to those far-flung cousins you’re bound to dig up.

Leo

For Leo, this moment in time is called ‘the captive audience’. Everyone is home. All. The. Time. And they’re at a loss to fill the hours. Enter stage left via the hallway, Leo. Apart from an all-you-can-eat buffet of attention at home, and for those living solo, everyone else is at home too, and they’re scrolling.

Instagram Stories were made for Leo, and this is exactly her moment to shine, entertain and take people’s minds off the ubiquitous topic on the tips of everyone’s lips. For Leonine creatives, the world is your oyster with live stream music festivals already having been and gone. Get on the roster or create your own!

Virgo

Your patron, the Greek Goddess Hygia, represents hygiene, which is great, except stocks of hand sanitizer are impossible to buy now that we want them. The nation’s newly minted focus on bench spraying and OCD hand washing will have Virgo feeling like the world has finally caught on to what you already know. While you can be tightly wound due to your finely tuned nature, in many ways this is your time.

Built to see the potential improvement in any situation or person you will know just what to do to help out which in turn will take your mind away from a natural propensity to worry. That sanitizer, leave it up to Virgo to know how to DIY with some alcohol and blended aloe pulp from her balcony pots. Set up your stay-in-situ routine to keep the day ticking along.

Libra

If Libra has her quarantine cutie at home to keep her company the lockdown won’t be so bad. Librans don’t do well without daily contact so if you don’t have someone to share countless hours with, consider sitting this one out at a friend’s place. Air signs need to talk, and this one is associated with counselling so Libra will be kept busy talking her worried friends back off the ledge and into a position of strength. This could be your internet-based coaching business moment, Libra!

Ruled by the planet of love and beauty, break out your paint set, or tune-up your lyre, this is also the perfect time to indulge your artistic side.

Scorpio

Mask and dark shades suit Scorpio’s need for privacy, while darting out for a quick 10-minute reconnaissance mission to the corner store on deserted streets appeals to her sense of mystery. Apart from that, staying in her ambiently lit den with a book on vampiric trysts or the latest metaphysical offering is the silver lining to the gothic Scorpio heart.

Extra time to learn tarot, or teach online is no problem as long as Scorpio’s active imagination veering toward the apocalyptic is kept in check. As the myth buster of the zodiac, she’ll let us know if there’s any truth to the conspiracy theories bandied about on the internet.

Sagittarius

The world is not enough for Sagittarius, and an apartment can seem very small after a few hours, let alone weeks or even months. If any sign is going to imagine the walls begin to close in it’s this unlikely mix of brawn and brain. To take care of all that energy, the Centaur will delight in streaming yoga classes and only breaking a vase or lampshade in the process if lucky. And lucky she is.

The inspirational speaker of the zodiac, this is the centaurs Winston Churchill moment to grab the mic and Livestream her positive upbeat, everything is going to be OK speeches, jokes and positive affirmations when we need to hear them the most. Get your guru on to compensate for the reality of your worst-case scenario: no overseas travel.

Aquarius

While the water bearer is a social air sign, her nature does lend her to ‘deep work’. The universe just helped her out with a global ‘do not disturb’ sign hung on every door on the planet, ensuring her train of thought is uninterrupted. Every Aquarius has a novel or social manifesto trapped inside them, this as good a time as any to pen it. Make sure to leave a trail of breadcrumbs, so you don’t become lost in the vast reaches and deep space of your mind!

Want the social contact while still social distancing? Make like fellow Aquarians Oprah and Ellen with your own talk show/podcast interviewing all the great minds that inspire you and that you’d love to share. Remember they’re home at the moment, what better time to give them a call?!

Capricorns natural pessimism, let’s call it her sense of preparedness and a viewfinder set permanently on reality, will ensure the household is stocked for a month with all the essentials. If any sign is predisposed to make the most of this time, Capricorn has the business savvy to do it.

Capricorns are earth signs and revel at the chance to start a new business, create a structure and organise the heck out of just about anything. She’ll commandeer the best part of the house, set up her H.Q. and make like the goat was born to: e-commerce her way straight to the top and create a social architecture to stabilise her community.

Pisces

Pisces finally has time to float, dream and manifest her creative opus. With nowhere to have to go, she can ground down her big vision and start to make some headway on putting it together. That or develop her lucid dreaming by keeping a dream diary now her mornings are free to write it. Pisces is prone to an overactive imagination, so focus on a project to keep the hypochondria at bay.

While most Pisces explainers will consider her an emotional wreck holed up on the couch with a box of tissues binge-watching her favourite unrequited love films, this may be the furthest thing from the truth. Pisces is a compassionate heart in times of need so she’ll be fielding all the feels from friends who need her.
