Some zodiac signs are destined to be friends, so are you and your BFF compatible? Astrologer Trudie McConnochie reveals all here.
Exploring your zodiac sign can help you make tough decisions, ultimately making your life that little bit easier.
For example, you can find out who you’re most compatible with on dating apps, what lingerie you should buy, what your perfect self-care routine should involve and even what your best sex position is (yes, really).
But knowing other people’s star sign and how it works in conjunction with yours, can help you determine if they’ll be a good friend or not.
Astrologer Trudie McConnochie explains that whether you’re looking for a platonic or romantic relationship, it’s worthwhile doing some investigating into what ‘element’ your sign is – read: fire, air, earth or water.
“If you’re a Sagittarius, for example, you’re a ‘fire’ sign, which means you’ll probably have a great rapport with the other fire signs, Aries and Leo,” McConnochie tells Body+Soul.
“You might also gel nicely with air signs, because they’ll fan your flames, helping keep you motivated and upbeat.”
And if you want to take things to the next level, she recommends also looking at your astrological chart.
“If you’ve had your astrological chart done, have a look at what sign rules your 11th house, which is the zone of friendships. If this house is ruled by Taurus, you might make friends slowly but be there for the long haul. If it’s ruled by Cancer, you probably treat your friends like family and enjoy really deep and meaningful convos.”
Of course, astrology is simply a tool for self-exploration and you can take what works for you and leave the rest behind, but knowing who your ideal ride-or-die is based on their zodiac sign will probably pay off in a multitude of ways in the future.
So, here’s the three zodiac signs that’ll make the best friends, according to McConnochie.

Your 3 ideal best friends, according to your zodiac sign
Best friends: Leo, Sagittarius and Gemini
Leo brings the drama that Aries lives for, while adventure-loving Sagittarius is the fuel for Aries’ fire. Gemini is never short of a good idea, providing fun-loving Aries with plenty of inspo – and a ton of gossip, too.
Best mates: Virgo, Capricorn and Libra
At a superficial level, Taureans and Librans are likely to bond over the finer things in life, so whether it’s heading to an art gallery or a cellar door opening together, they’ll be loving it sick. All that hedonism can get exhausting though, so Taurus’ friendships with the more dependable Capricorn and Virgo are a great grounding force. Also, Virgos can make great workout buddies.
Best mates: Libra, Aquarius and Leo
Given their love of socialising, Gemini and Libra are a match made in party heaven, while chatty Aquarius will keep the convo flowing – most likely in random messenger chats that make zero sense to anyone else. Because Gemini can be a little flighty, friendship with a Leo can be an amazing influence, giving them direction and boosting their confidence.
Best mates: Scorpio, Pisces and Capricorn
Cancers love to feel a sense of belonging, and friendships with the intuitive Scorpio and compassionate Pisces are the real deal. Cancers can be a little oversensitive sometimes, so the influence of the highly driven Capricorn can help them get their shit together in tough times.
Best mates: Aries, Sagittarius and Aquarius
Leo’s enthusiasm means they tend to gel with the optimistic Sagittarius, while the kid-like energy of Aries gives life a real spark. The randomness of Aquarians, who are anything but predictable, keep Leo on their toes and makes sure they don’t get bored (something they hate with a passion).
Best mates: Taurus, Capricorn and Scorpio
Because Virgos tend to take themselves a little too seriously, the down-to-earth energy of Taurus can help calm the farm, while the loyalty of a Capricorn makes for a perfect ride or die. When Virgos get into overthinking mode, they should call a Scorpio mate – their intuition will provide perspective.
Best mates: Gemini, Aquarius and Leo
Libras are always up for a good time, meaning a fun-loving Gemini mate is a great partner in crime. Their friendships are super important, and the socially engaged Aquarius is a natural fit. Like a magpie, Libras can be drawn to the shininess of Leo, an outgoing sign that can be as extra as they are.
Best mates: Cancer, Pisces and… Scorpio
You’re allergic to small talk, which makes the emotional insight of Cancer and the dreaminess of Pisces super appealing. To be honest, a Scorpio’s best friendships are likely to be with other Scorpios, since literally no one else really gets their mysterious and deep-thinking nature.
Best mates: Leo, Aries and Libra
Nothing much slows down a Sag, so having a lit Leo and a no-limits Libra along for the ride makes for legendary shenanigans – especially if travel is involved. Hello girls’ weekend! Also, Sagittarians love a good story – and a good-natured debate – and the fiery Aries is so here for that.
Best mates: Virgo, Taurus and Scorpio
Cappys live to work, rather than the other way around, which means they often gravitate to friends who can supply gentle encouragement, such as Taurus, and uber-reliable companionship, such as Virgo. Scorpios will always respect and support a Capricorn’s ambition in a BS-free way they totally value.
Best mates: Gemini, Libra and Leo
Aquarians love having a Libra BFF who is always up for a good time, while a Gemini mate is great to have on hand to talk things through (something Aquarians love to do… a lot). The influence of a Leo can inspire Aquarians to take better care of themselves – which they definitely forget about sometimes – and to open up the heart a little more.
Best mates: Cancer, Scorpio and Virgo
Pisceans have got some big feelings, and Cancer is the only sign that truly gets that – which makes for a solid bond. Scorpio friends are fabulous for holding Pisces to account when they’ve veered off track. And when they need help bringing their big ideas to life, Virgos are there with the practical advice they need – dream team!
