Kim Kardashian talks Kanye West’s mental health and bipolar disorder

Last year, after a listening party for this new album, Kanye revealed that he was diagnosed with a “mental condition” in 2017, before including the text “I hate being bipolar it’s awesome,” on the artwork for that same album.

Then, in a visit to President Donald Trump at the White House, Kanye backtracked, stating that he wasn’t actually bipolar, but suffered from sleep deprivation.

In a new interview, Kim Kardashian has now revealed that Kanye has currently accepted the bipolar diagnosis again, and while he still suffers from ‘episodes’ caused by the condition, the couple now know better ‘how to handle them’.

“I think we’re in a pretty good place with it now,” she said. “It is an emotional process, for sure. Right now, everything is really calm. But we can definitely feel episodes coming, and we know how to handle them.”

In the interview with Vogue, Kardashian also suggested that Kanye hopes to become a trailblazer as someone in the public eye who is living life with a mental illness, but not relying on medication as treatment.

“For him, being on medication is not really an option, because it just changes who he is,” Kardashian said of her husband. “Traveling a lot does set it off, so he doesn’t travel as much as he used to. But honestly, I never want to speak for him, because I am not in his mind.”

Kim went on to say that she has found public criticism of her reactions towards Kanye’s condition ‘hurtful’, as so much more happens between the couple out of the public eye in terms of managing and treating his bipolar diagnosis.

“I share every opinion that I have and let him know when I think something’s wrong,” Kim said. “Or if it comes to him being in the middle of a bipolar episode, I’ll do everything to be supportive and help to calm the situation.”

“The one thing that I respect so much is that he is who he is, no matter what anyone tries to tell him to do,” Kim concluded.
