Energy healer Dr Dain’s hack to making good decisions when you feel stuck works

Going into 2021 in a rut? You’re not alone. But have you ever considered altering your energy to get unstuck? Dr Dain, an expert in energy healing for 20 years, has some tricks to get back on track.

When The Goop Lab released a Netflix episode on energy, Google searches for “energy healing” tripled compared to the rest of the year.

A former chiropractor, Dr Dain Heer has been practicing energy healing for the good part of two decades and says that while mainstream interest has been piquing in more recent years, it’s something we’re all aware of, even if it’s not conscious.

If you’re going into 2021 feeling stuck by the past year, we spoke with Dr Heer about how we can understand and reroute your energy for your best year yet.

Body+Soul: How do you describe energy work or energy awareness to someone who may be skeptical?

Dr Dain: We’re all actually aware of energy, but no one has ever talked to us about it. Energy work takes that awareness to a more subtle level and helps you with decision making and gaining clarity when you’re feeling confused.

For example, on one of those mornings when you wake up and you feel like you’re on cloud nine or 10, and you can conquer the world, that has one energy, and on one of those mornings when you wake up and you feel like you just want to hit the snooze alarm 27 times and bury your head in your pillow and never wake up, that’s got a different energy.

Being able to sense how your partner is feeling before you even ask them, this is another example.

How can energy work help us make decisions?

Energy work can help us make decisions by realising that what’s true for you will always make you feel lighter. What’s a lie, or wrong decision for you, for you will always make you heavier.

This doesn’t mean avoiding what doesn’t feel amazing all the time. Energy work helps you identify those tough choices that we know can cause us a bit of pain and heartbreak in the short term but will lead to lightness in the long term for your life.

One thing that can help you get that awareness is to look back over a couple of times in your life where you knew not to do something, you knew not to say yes, and you did it anyway. How well did it turn out? Usually as poorly as you knew it was going to in the first place! But we often deny our knowing in favour of our thinking. If something checks all the boxes, then we’ll do it, even if it’s not the best for us to do.

Being able to recognise these moments increases your awareness and helps you get in touch with your energy.

For someone who may be feeling ‘stuck’ what are some simple practises that can help?

If you look back at the moment you first heard about whatever it is you’re thinking about doing or choosing, before you went into thinking about it, what was the first knee jerk reaction that you had? Was it lighter and happier, or was it, “oh no, I’m not going to do this”?

One of the other reasons confusion and overwhelm occurs is because we have our first instinct or awareness about a decision, and then because people think we should do something, or we think we’re a bad person if we don’t, we try to figure out a way that it is going to work (even though we know internally it isn’t going to).

Any daily practices to reduce feelings of overwhelm?

A simple daily practice is to start embracing and honing-in on this internal knowing each and every day.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed and stuck in a rut, every time you make a decision, no matter how big or small it is, ask “is this light or heavy?” Even when making a coffee in the morning, ask this question. You will start honing into your energetic awareness the more you practice, and bringing more light decisions into your day can ease that sense of being stuck in a rut.

What I ask people to do once every three or four weeks is to get the sense of the way you would love your life to be if you had a magic wand, or knew a wizard that could grant you anything.

You could get the sense of the way it would be to have ease with money and no longer worry about it or get the sense of the way it would be to have relationships with people who adore you and have no judgment of you (or get the sense of having that with yourself!).

Try and tune into this energy once every three or four weeks. Feel it in your body, get a sense of the relief and joy it brings you. Then, ask that energy to show up in your life.

You can ask the universe, consciousness, God, the source, whatever it is for you, “I’m asking for more of this energy to show up, and anything that will contribute to it, and make it as easy and quick as possible.”

When you feel these energies start to show up in your life, follow them! Even if they don’t make sense.

Some people would say it takes faith to recognise and acknowledge, in actuality, it takes a willingness to have our life start to show up with ease. What you’re doing is being open to more options that are presented to you, and when you’re open to these options, your mind will actually see more of these opportunities in your everyday life.
